Hand - Or/overemployed Posted by u/Naija_Doll How I broke into tech with a fake resume (kind of long so buckle up)
  • 02
Font - This is going to be a bit long but let me tell y'all how I was able to get my first job in a tech role and why you should also lie (I'm sure a lot of people in higher roles did the same because there's a few in my org that I can't believe got the position they did when they can barely use excel but that's a story for another day)

Font - I was applying for a lot of jobs and being honest about my previous experience (or lack therefore) in the tech industry. I was 1 year away from graduating with a degree in tech and had all the skills they wanted plus more. I know python, JS, VBA, R, know how to use tableau, very good with pivot tables (excel in general) etc. But every single place (even entry level) wanted me to have experience.

Font - I initially got a job but it was for a sales role and in person and the position didn't start for a few more months so I accepted the position as a backup but was still on the hunt. I wasn't sure what direction I wanted to head in until a (now ex) friend told me I should go for business analyst roles because they're not really tech heavy and it's easier to lie about experience.

Font - She sent me her fake resume and told me to copy it and put my own twist on it. She also helped me with interview questions. After changing my resume and putting 2 (or 3 I can't remember) fake positions on there (I put they were contract roles) I finally started getting interviews and calls. Only thing is I was bombing the interviews

Font - Finally, I got an email from a recruiter at my current position. I had a phone interview with him, then he emailed me the next day with wanting to set up an interview with members of the team. The 2nd interview went great then a few days later I got an email saying they want me to interview with the team and department managers. A few days after that one, I was offered the job.

Font - Here's where I almost had to bail but I figured it out. During the background check, they contact previous employers (they used a 3rd party company for the background checks.) I originally had my sister and a friend's phone number but when they contacted them, they wanted them to call from the alleged work phone or email from their work account. I started to panic because I was sure I would have to just contact the recruiter and say I decided not to move forward anymore. It took me a few

Font - After a few days of stalling, they eventually said they would also accept pay stubs/W-2 from the previous place if I had them. So what I did is made fake pay stubs for one job then with the other, I bought a website domain and paid for the email function as well (it was less than $100) with the same name as the company I lied about working for but used .tech vs .com.

Font - I made an email using my friend's name that I said was my manager and put that email on the verification site. They sent the email to the fake email I gave them and I approved and signed the letter saying I used to work there.

Font - And 1 year later, I am still at the company and each time I have a review with my manager, I get nothing but great remarks. Now I am going to start looking for J2.

Font - TL;DR: I made a resume and lied about the previous companies I worked at since I had no experience in the industry. Got hired and company wanted to contact previous employers. I made fake pay stubs and a fake website to verify previous employment with my current company and have been with them for a year now. Lie, lie, lie as long as you can speak to the points on your resume. I'm sure everyone embellishes on their resume.

Font - Edit: I didn't know I would make people mad with posting this how is me lying affecting you personally? Do you think I'm the first person in history to lie on their resume?! There's people who have gotten entire VP/CEO roles based off fake resumes and degrees. At least my degree is real! I did it for an ENTRY level job. Go be bitter somewhere else.

Font - You're in a subreddit for OE and plenty of people in here could get in trouble for "stealing company time." I guess y'all need to go snitch on everyone in this sub Reddit who is working more than 1 job with the same work hours. Go be mad at the companies who overwork and underpay us and not some random woman on Reddit. Companies lie to us all the time too yet you're mad at me and not them

Font - +2 18 hr. ago I once had a background check super delayed because they couldn't get a hold of my pizza hut manager that no longer worked there. All my corporate jobs with relevant experience were easily verified, but that pizza hut job I had for a few weeks was their big gotcha! Lol scootscoot

Font - Bloodryne 11 hr. ago ● I had a similar issue with a ...lifeguard position.... Like I git the w2s from the real jobs, good enough?

Font - Lowered_expectationz 17 hr. ago . edited 16 hr. ago I did the same thing breaking into tech few years ago except I made an actual company and did the same exact tasks and job descriptions on the job posts for my company. I used my clients as references and never told my employer that I owned the company.

Font - Its OKILove You MYbb 11 hr. ago I mean, to me that's the standard way of putting freelancing/consulting on your resume. That's the best way to do it. You don't have to be transparent from the start, because most people just don't ask and don't care. You've actually done the work; anything beyond that really is just gatekeeping and being pedantic, almost always due to ego.

Handwriting - What most normal people truly care about is do you know what you're doing (can I rely on you), and do I want to work with you for the next 2-3 years

Font - triple_shekel 17 hr. ago • I'm sure everyone embellishes on their resume. Pretty much every Indian contractor resume I've seen whether onshore or off is mostly bullshit. Just shameless keyword stuffing grabbed straight from a JD. We're talking 3-5+ pages for <5 years of experience. If you ask them something about a specific bullet point, it's 50:50 if they even know it.

Font - I haven't faked actual companies, but I have inflated my title/duties. And I've pretty much never used a real reference - I've always used a friends number or a alternate emails I control. References are rarely checked anyways.

Font - K3idon 18 hr. ago Truth is the first casualty in the job search. Kudos to you, OP. Do what you have to get your foot in the door. More importantly, to keep that roof over your head. If we can't expect employers to be fair and honest, why should we? We got bills to pay and mouths to feed.

Mammal - TheAeroMission 18 hr. ago Lol nice. You are already master an important skill in OE: embellish, exaggerate, and sometimes lie

Font - CrimeCoder 16 hr. ago OP is more talented and knowledgeable than most CEOS/Billionaires... So kudos, fuck the system that fucks you.
